When I was a child, the Apollo Moon landings excited and inspired me. I was heart broken when I found out that the UK did not have a manned space program. Still that early inspiration set me on a career in engineering and a life long fascination with space exploration.
So it was with great sadness that I learnt this week of the death of Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the Moon.
He died on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at age 82. In a written statement his family said
For those who may ask what they can do to honour Neil, we have a simple request. Honour his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.
